Honolulu 3.8% August jobless rate 8th lowest nationally
Honolulu’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.8 percent in August, tying it for the eighth lowest jobless rate among U.S. cities.
The August rate was down from a 4.2 percent unemployment rate in July, according to a report released today by the U.S. Labor Department.
Honolulu was tied with Iowa City with the eighth-lowest unemployment rate out of 347 metropolitan areas surveyed by the Labor Department. Honolulu was one of only 10 cities where the jobless rate was less than 4 percent.
Unlike the national and state figures, the metro unemployment data are not adjusted for seasonal changes. The state seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.3 percent in August. It was 7.3 percent nationally.
