House fire on Lanai destroys home, 3 vehicles
A Lanai home and three vehicles, including a new Hummer, were destroyed in a house fire this morning, a Maui County Fire Department spokesman said.
Witnesses said the fire started near the vehicles and spread to the structure, but the cause is still under investigation, Capt. Bram Denhaan said.
More than half the home was on fire when firefighters arrived at the corner of Jacaranda and Third streets around 7:45 a.m., Denhaan said.
There were no injuries. The owner went to the store and was not home when the fire broke out, he said.
Denhaan said a Lanai airport fire crew and Lahaina firefighters who arrived via rescue helicopter and rescue boat, helped extinguish the fire.
