Pahoa man critically injured by spear gun in confrontation
A man was critically injured when he was shot with a spear gun and a woman was hit with a rock Tuesday night in the Puna district, Hawaii County police said.
Officers arrested a 49-year-old Pahoa man for second-degree attempted murder. He was being held in the police cell block.
Police responded to a 10:15 p.m. call of a man shot with a spear gun during a confrontation on Leilani Avenue in the Leilani Estates subdivision.
The victim, a 20-year-old Pahoa man, was taken to Hilo Medical Center in critical condition. He underwent surgery. Police did not say where he was wounded.
A 61-year-old woman was hit on one of her legs by a large rock, police said. She was treated at Hilo Medical Center and released.
