Three Honolulu Police Department solo bike officers got to meet a special package Wednesday morning — Zahnyssa Tamayo — the baby girl they helped to deliver on the freeway two weeks ago.

Tiera Tamayo and her husband, Mardy, were heading to the hospital April 25 and got stuck in the rush-hour traffic on the H-1 freeway.

The baby’s parents were trying to make it to a hospital from their Waipahu home.

Solo bike officers, Stephen Keogh, Kirk Brown and Grant Robello responded, being at the right place at the right time. 

The three worked together and helped in the successful delivery of the baby girl. 

Keogh said he delivered the baby in the front seat of the family’s Nissan pick-up truck. 

“I felt she (the mother) was in control and she did a fantastic job,” Keogh said.

The baby was born at about 8 a.m. on the Koko Head-bound lanes of the H-1 freeway near the Middle Street offramp.

Zahnyssa is Tiera and Mardy Tamayo’s third child

While it was the mother’s third child, this was the second time Keogh delivered a baby while on duty on the freeway. It happened six months ago on the H-1 freeway when he delivered a baby girl.

The police officers met with the Tamayo family for the first time Wednesday at the main HPD station on Beretania Street Wednesday afternoon.
