Oahu ended 2012 just shy of its prior occupancy peak, but isle hotels were fuller last year than those in most competing sun destinations, according to a Hawaii Competitive Global Rankings report released Monday by Hospitality Advisors LLC.
An 11 percent increase in visitor arrivals to Oahu last year helped its occupancy improve to 84.7 percent, a 4 percentage point gain from the prior year. Oahu’s record occupancy is 85.3 percent, reached in 2005.
All four of the main Hawaiian Islands made it onto Hospitality Advisor’s top 10 list of island/sun destinations.
Maui came in third on the list with an occupancy of 72.6 percent, Kauai placed sixth at 68.9 percent and Hawaii island brought up the rear with a hotel occupancy of 62 percent. All four of the main Hawaiian Islands ranked in the top 10 for average daily room rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPAR) as well. In 2012, statewide ADR rose to $204.15 and RevPAR increased to $156.99.
