Sears closure to leave 327 jobless
Sears said it will lay off 327 workers when it closes its Ala Moana Center store on June 2.
“They will have an opportunity to apply for positions at other Kmart and Sears stores,” said Sears Holdings spokesman Howard Riefs.
Sears Holdings Corp. last year struck a deal with Ala Moana Center owner General Growth Properties Inc. to sell the store — one of the original anchor tenants when Ala Moana Center opened in 1959 — and 10 other mainland outlets for $270 million.
General Growth exercised its right to move up Sears’ closing date, which was originally scheduled for early 2014, Riefs said. The store will begin its liquidation sale on March 15.
