The updated roster of commanders for the Honolulu Police Department’s eight patrol districts is complete following promotions announced Wednesday by Police Chief Louis Kealoha.
Six of the eight patrol districts are getting, or recently received, new commanders due largely to shuffling caused by retirements among veteran majors on the force. Three of the new commanders are newly promoted Majs. Lester Hite, Cary Okimoto and Roy Sugimoto.
Here is the new lineup:
» District 1 (Central Honolulu) will be led by Sugimoto, who was most recently the captain for the district. Sugimoto replaces Sean Naito, who now heads the Communications Division.
» District 2 (Wahiawa) is led by Tom Grossi, formerly the major in charge of finance. Grossi replaces Moana Heu, who now heads the Community Affairs Division.
» District 3 (Pearl City) will continue to be led by Clayton Saito.
» District 4 (Windward) is led by John McIntire, former major in charge of the Narcotics/Vice Division. McIntire replaces Clyde Ho, who is now in charge of the Professional Standards Office.
» District 5 (Kalihi) is commanded by Hite, most recently a captain in the Criminal Investigations Division. Hite replaces William Chur, who retired.
» District 6 (Waikiki) is now led by Okimoto, formerly a captain in the Human Resources Division. Okimoto replaces Ron Bode, who retired.
» District 7 (East Honolulu) is being commanded by Ray Ancheta, former major of the Community Affairs Division. He replaces Michael Thomas, who retired.
» District 8 (Kapolei) will continue to be headed by Cary Inouye.
Two other promotions to major were announced. William Axt will head the Finance Division, formerly headed by Grossi. Jerry Inouye will head the Narcotics/Vice Division, formerly led by McIntire.
All eight patrol districts now report to a single assistant chief, Randy Macadangdang, following an HPD reorganization that eliminated one of two assistant chief positions in charge of the patrol districts.
The other assistant chiefs are Clayton Kau (Support Services Bureau), Mark Nakagawa (Administrative Bureau), Greg Lefcourt (Special Field Operations Bureau) and Susan Dowsett (Investigative Bureau).
The administrative and support services bureaus answer to Deputy Chief Dave Kajihiro, while the patrol, special field operations and investigative bureaus fall under Deputy Chief Marie McCauley. Kajihiro and McCauley report directly to Kealoha.
