Kalihi police officers issue 596 traffic citations in January

Officers in the Kalihi district issued 596 citations last month as part of the police department’s Safer Roads campaign.

The tickets ranged from speeding to loud and noisy mopeds.

The Honolulu Police Department’s website reported that of the 596 citations, 188 were for speeding and one for excessive speeding.

Officers also issued 21 tickets for illegal use of cellphones or other mobile devices, 29 for hazardous driving, 12 seat belt violations, five pedestrian violations, three loud motorcycle or moped tickets and one citation for not using a child restraint device in a vehicle.

The Kalihi district encompasses Honolulu Harbor, Honolulu Airport, Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Salt Lake, Liliha, and Nuuanu and extends through Kalihi Valley,
