A female tourist from the Netherlands was found dead at the bottom of a cliff in Waihee, Maui, Friday afternoon after officials received a report of a bicyclist going off the road there, Maui officials said.

A county news release said officials were alerted to the incident at 2:51 p.m. Rescue personnel went to mile marker 8 at 10800 Kahekili Highway, rappeled about 125 feet down the cliff and found the woman’s body.

The victim, a 29-year-old woman from Amsterdam, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A county helicopter airlifted the woman’s body to a landing zone.
