Maui police are seeking a 27-year-old homeless man for questioning in the death Thursday of his 52-year-old uncle at a homeless encampment in Wailuku.

Police said Charleston Koko allegedly threw his uncle to the ground and straddled him before family members separated them. Koko left on foot. The uncle reportedly went back into his tent and collapsed, police said.

Police were called to a homeless encampment known as the Wailuku River mouth at the end of Kaae Road where someone reported that four males were fighting.

Officers found the 52-year-old man unconscious inside his tent and began efforts to resuscitate him. The man was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police opened a manslaughter investigation.

Koko is described as 5 feet 6 and 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is known to frequent Wailuku town and Waiehu, police said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 911. Police advise the public to not approach Koko.
