A 14-year-old girl was killed and three people were seriously injured following a head-on collision between two SUVs in Ewa Beach.

The victim was identified by friends as Kawehi Kupukaa, a Campbell High School sophomore.

Police said the accident occurred at 1:45 p.m. in the 91-1000 block of Kaimalie Street fronting the Ewa Pointe Marketplace shopping center.

The victim was a front seat passenger in one of the SUVs, driven by a 16-year-old boy who was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center.

A third passenger in the SUV, 14, and the driver of the other SUV, 41, were taken to Queen’s in serious condition. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police said witnesses reported that the SUV the teens were in was speeding toward the Fort Weaver Road intersection when it crossed the centerline and struck the second vehicle. The first SUV then continue down Kaimalie, slammed into a parked van and then struck a utility pole before coming to a stop, police said.

Police closed Kaimalie Street between Fort Weaver Road and Kaipu Street at 1:54 p.m. It reopened about 7:40 p.m.

Students from nearby James Campbell High School said the three teenagers were students from their school.
