Crews repairing broken sewer pipe in lower Manoa
City crews are repairing a century-old terra cotta pipe in lower Manoa that broke this morning, causing about 1,275 gallons of untreated sewage into a storm drain that leads to Ala Wai Canal.
Hunnewell Street between Vancouver Drive and Seaview Avenue remains closed as a crew continues to repair the 6-inch pipe at 1812 Hunnewell, said Markus Owens, spokesman for the city Department of Environmental Services.
Crews used Vactor trucks to recover 3,500 gallons and discharge the sewage back into the system for proper treatment, Owens said.
