Honolulu Zoo is gearing up for Halloween with two events for the keiki.
Dress up and go trick-or-treating at the zoo during the "Treats & Tails Tours" from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.
The Honolulu Zoo Society’s annual event includes spooky stories, freaky factoids about animals and treats for costumed keiki.
The tour costs $20 for adult ghouls, $6 for goblins ages 3 to 12, and free for mini ghosts 2 and under ($4 discount for zoo members). Entry will be through Gate No. 3. Reservations are recommended by calling 971-7195. Visit honoluluzoo.org/pdfs/treats2012.pdf.
On Sunday, it’s the animals’ turn to celebrate Halloween with special pumpkin feedings.
Watch the orangutans enjoy their pumpkin treats at about 9:30 a.m., followed by the lions at 10 a.m. and the chimps at 10:30 a.m. The fun continues at the elephant exhibit, as the creatures will smash their pumpkins at about 11:30 a.m., followed by the tigers at 1:30 p.m. and the parrots and toucans at 2 p.m.
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Malama Maunalua and the Assistance League of Hawaii will run educational booths at the zoo from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is free on Sunday for kids in Halloween costumes up to age 12. The Honolulu Zoo, 151 Kapahulu Ave., is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 971-7171.
Dentists trade cash for candy
Dentists want to take your Halloween candy.
Waialae Dental Care is offering kids $1 for every pound of candy they bring in from Thursday to Nov. 9. The office will also make a $1 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii for each pound of candy collected.
The candy the office amasses will be donated to members of the Hawaii National Guard.Children may exchange candy between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday at Waialae Dental Care at Kahala Mall. No appointment is necessary. Call 732-4377.
Dr. Wilfred Miyasaki’s dental office, 1139 Bethel St., will also be trading candy for cash ($1 per pound) from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 3. The candy will be sent to U.S. troops overseas.

Aloha Tower home to FunFest
Hawaii Pacific University presents its second annual Halloween FunFest Monday at Aloha Tower Marketplace.
Activities, which run from 5 to 8:30 p.m., include trick-or-treating, more than 20 carnival games, a haunted maze and costume contests. Admission and activities are free.
Entertainment will be provided by Black Square, Zombie Killahs, Streetlight Cadence, the HPU dance and cheer teams and the school mascot, Sharkey.

Waldorfaire channels Renaissance
Family-centered fun is at the heart of the Renaissance-themed Waldorfaire today at the Honolulu Waldorf School.
Classrooms will be transformed into treasure caves, toy shops, face-painting boutiques and puppet theaters at the fair, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Kids can also try rock climbing, play medieval games and enjoy pony rides.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., fairy tale fantasies can come true for kids with rides in the Cinderella Carriage. Admission is free with scrip being sold for activities to benefit the school.
The school invites you to come in your most creative costume and mask to enter the mask contest.

Halloween gets Spooktacular
The Halloween Spooktacular family event at the Boys & Girls Club Spalding Clubhouse will feature carnival games, cookie decorating and a costume contest from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The Halloween night event will also include face painting and a pie eating contest. Entry is free, though there is a fee, starting at 10 cents, to play carnival games.
