Health Dept. warns of possible ID theft from community center
The state Department of Health said today that identities of members, past and present, of a Waipahu community center that supports people living with mental illness could have been stolen by a hacker on Sept. 25.
Department officials said that an employee at the Waipahu Aloha Clubhouse saw "unusual activity" on a computer at the facility that suggested an unauthorized user was accessing it remotely. The computer had access to files containing personal information of clubhouse members.
Clubhouse members are advised to place a fraud alert on their credit files and to notify police if they see any suspicious credit activity.
The department said steps have been taking to prevent another data breach.
The Waipahu Aloha Clubhouse is a local community center that provides support services to people living with mental illness.
