Today’s highlights at the Hawaii International Film Festival:
"Porco Rosso" (Studio Ghibli Retrospective, 11 a.m.): One of the lesser-known animated features in the Hayao Miyazaki canon, this action-adventure is about a flying ace (mysteriously transformed into a pig) who goes into battle with a rival pilot hired by a band of sky pirates.

"Barfi!" (Spotlight on India, 2:45 p.m.): A deaf-mute man has a bittersweet relationship with two beautiful young women. This is India’s official entry for consideration in the Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film category.
"Tenchi: The Samurai Astronomer" (Spotlight on Japan, 3 p.m., repeats 8 p.m. Sunday): From Yojiro Takita, the Oscar-winning director of "Departures," comes an adventure story of a real-life samurai who overcomes obstacles in his visionary quest to create a new calendar.
"Remington and the Curse of the Zombadings" (Spotlight on the Philippines, 9 p.m.): An outrageous camp comedy about how a ladies’ man turns gay overnight due to the curse of an angry drag queen.
"Cloud Atlas" (special screening, 9 p.m.): The latest film from the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer is an ambitious sci-fi adventure with multiple time and story lines, starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.
