A 46-year-old man with no local address remained in police custody tonight pending charges for two bank robberies.

Honolulu CrimeStoppers Coordinator Kim Buffett said police were expected to hold a lineup tonight for witnesses in the two robberies to positively identify the suspect.

The 46-year-old is suspected of robbing the Kapiolani branch of American Savings Bank and the Aina Haina branch of Territorial Savings Bank.

The man in the Territorial bank robbery is described as 5-foot-6, 300 to 350 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and a large tattoo on his left forearm.

CrimeStoppers issued a bulletin Oct. 15 with a clear surveillance photo taken of the suspect for the Oct. 15 Aina Haina robbery in which he handed the teller a note and demanded money, fleeing on foot.

Then on Oct. 16, a similar-looking man entered the Kapiolani branch of the American Savings Bank branch at 12:30 p.m., demanding money, and fled after receiving the money, police said.

Police later found and arrested him on suspicion of two counts of second-degree robbery.
