College will present festival Oct. 6
Unique crafts, hula performances and ethnic food are among the highlights at Windward Ho‘olaule‘a 2012, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 6 at Windward Community College.
Held on the college’s Great Lawn, the festival has a theme of "A Homegrown Celebration" and will feature singers John Cruz and Teresa Bright.
Gallery ‘Iolani will have a new exhibit, "Confluence 3," on display. There will also be a display of Hawaiian medicinal herbs and woodcarving and fiber arts demonstrations.
Food booths and a silent auction round out the event, which will help fund scholarships for Windward Community College students.

State kids day set for Oct. 7
Hawaii’s Children & Youth Day brings games, rides, hands-on activities, demonstrations, crafts and entertainment to the state Capitol and the surrounding grounds.
The state event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7. Highlights include a Yu Gi Oh tournament, a teen zone, an HPD K-9 demonstration, Zumba and Beachbody fitness, a Mustang car show and an obstacle course, as well as rides, inflatables and more.
New activities this year include a basketball court challenge, a football clinic, keiki 1K and 3K fun runs, a teen fashion show, a college fair showcase and a bicycle motocross course.
