Man and his sister arrested in three Hawaii island burglaries

Hawaii County police arrested a 32-year-old man and his 29-year-old sister, both from Waikoloa, who are suspected in three burglaries in the Waikoloa area this month.

Police said someone entered a Kehela Place house sometime between Aug. 11 and 12 and stole jewelry, clothing and electronic equipment.

Then on Aug. 13, someone broke into a Pakanu Street home, taking an electronic game device and several games.

On Aug. 14, a Waikoloa couple said they spotted a man leaving their driveway on Lina Poepoe Street. He claimed to have rescued a dog from their swimming pool.

When they went into their home, they found someone had removed a screen window and two laptops were missing.

Police arrested the 29-year-old woman on suspicion of burglary for the Aug. 13 incident and recovered $500 worth of jewelry and clothing.

Her brother, 32, was arrested on suspicion of criminal trespassing and two counts of burglary for the two other burglaries, police said.

The two were released pending further investigation.

Police say there have been several more burglaries in the area, and police are continuing to investigate the cases.

Anyone with information on break-ins in the area is asked to call officer Joshua Dumont at 887-3082 or the police nonemergency number at 935-3311. Anonymous calls may be made to CrimeStoppers at 961-8300 or 329-8181.
