Brushfire chars 30 acres in West Maui
Maui firefighters planned to work overnight to extinguish a small brush fire that burned close to town houses Sunday in West Maui.
The fire started about 4 p.m., burned about 30 acres, and came as close as 50 feet to townhouses on Puukolii Road, a Maui Fire Department spokesman said.
Some 40 firefighters had it about 50 percent under control by 8 p.m.
The spokesman said firefighters planned to continue working on the fire overnight. The cause was unknown.
