Police charge suspect in stabbing of taxi driver
City prosecutors have charged a homeless man with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of a taxi driver in Moiliili early Tuesday.
John Lanoza, 48, is being held on $100,000 bail and is expected to make his first appearance in state District Court on Thursday.
The victim, 59, was hospitalized in critical condition following the 1:45 a.m. incident and he remained in the hospital today, police said.
The cab driver picked up the suspect in Waikiki and took him to a Kaimuki address as request, police said. The customer then asked to be taken to a University area fast-food restaurant and it was in the restaurant parking lot that the stabbing occurred, police said.
Lanoza was arrested a short time later in the parking lot on South Beretania Street.
