A 29-year-old man whose body was found in a park off Kapaa Quarry Road on Thursday died of a gunshot wound to the back of the neck, the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said Friday.

The office identified the man as William Fallau, of Kaneohe, and ruled his death a homicide. Neighbors said Fallau has a young daughter.

Police said they were investigating Friday night and will reclassify the case as a murder. Detectives did not have any suspects.

Police said hikers reported a man with no signs of life and suspicious injuries at Kawainui State Park Reserve at 5:37 p.m. Authorities pronounced Fallau dead at 5:50 p.m.

Honolulu police Capt. Lester Hite said on Thursday night that there appeared to be signs of trauma to the man’s cheek and eyes.

“There was a loss of blood,” he said.

He said the body was found in an open area between the second and third row of a set of wooden benches that are about 30 yards behind a hill facing the road. No weapons were found.
