Woman pedestrian dies after Waimano Home Road accident
A 60-year-old Pearl City woman died of her injuries after she was hit by a Toyota Corolla traveling “at a high rate of speed” in a cross walk on Waimano Home Road Wednesday night, police said.
Police said a 1989 Toyota, driven by a 48-year-old Kapolei man, traveling downhill on Waimano Home Road hit the woman near the Leomele Street intersection at 8:13 p.m.
Paramedics took the woman in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center with head and internal injuries. Police said she died of her injuries early this morning.
Police said speed may be a factor in the crash. It is not known if alcohol or drugs are factors.
Police closed one lane in each direction of Waimano Home Road between Noelani and Hoomaemae streets until about 11 p.m.
There have been 33 deaths on Oahu roads this year, compared with 29 at the same time last year.
