Kauai police arrested a 23-year-old Eleele man on suspicion of driving under the influence after he allegedly crashed his pickup truck into a utility pole along Kaumualii Highway late Saturday night, Kauai police said Sunday.

Police said the man was traveling west at about 11:15 p.m. on Kaumualii Highway, near the Eleele Shopping Center, when he struck a utility pole along the westbound shoulder of the highway.

Police said the man’s white Toyota pickup truck rolled over onto its side, and he suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Police shut down Kaumualii Highway until about 1 a.m. Sunday morning while utility crews worked to fix the damaged pole.
