Pieces of a mo-ped involved in a crash on Kamehameha Highway Monday night in Hauula could be seen on the ground near the crash scene.

An 18-year-old Hauula man was in critical condition at the Queen’s Medical Center after a moped accident overnight in Hauula.

Police said the man was driving a mo-ped towards Kahuku on Kamehameha Highway when he collided with a car, also going north, at about 11:30 p.m. near the Kawaipuna Street intersection.

Paramedics took the man in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet.

Police said it is not known if speed or alcohol are factors in the crash.

The 60-year-old Laie woman driving the car was not injured.

Police shut down Kamehameha Highway for about an hour, from about 2:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m., as they investigated the crash. Traffic was re-routed to Kaipapau Loop.
