Police caught up with a suspected armed robbery suspect in Waipahu after a high-speed chase that started on the North Shore.

Honolulu police caught up with an armed robbery suspect, who led officers on a high-speed chase from the North Shore this morning that ended when his vehicle ran out of gas near Waipahu High School.

Police said two men reported being held up at gunpoint in Pupukea at 2:42 a.m. The two victims apparently got into the car on Waialua Beach Road and ended up in Pupukea.

The suspect drove away towards Haleiwa Beach Park. Officers caught him near Waipahu High School when his car ran out of gas, police said. The suspect then fled on foot and officers captured him at 3:07 a.m. Police recovered a handgun at the scene.

The suspect faces charges of  first-degree robbery, felony possession of a weapon, reckless driving, refusing to stop, resisting order to stop and driving without a license.
