Firefighters coax cat down from Pacific Heights utility pole

Firefighters rescued an 18-month-old cat Saturday after it spent nearly 24 hours at the top of a 40-foot utility pole in Pacific Heights.

Honolulu fire Capt. Carlton Yamada said the cat’s owner called the Hawaiian Humane Society for help because the cat wouldn’t come down on Kapaloala Place.

The humane society called firefighters for help at 10:10 a.m.

About four firefighters with the Kuakini ladder company responded and determined it was too dangerous to use a ladder next to the pole because of nearby electrical wires.

Instead, they used a 35-foot ground ladder to climb up a nearby banyan tree and coaxed the cat down the pole.

Yamada said firefighters got the cat, named Storm, safely down just before 11 a.m.
