Faced with a "last chance" performance to keep her spot on NBC’s "The Voice," Hawaii-born singer Cheesa Laureta flirted with irony when she decided to go with Kelly Clarkson’s "Already Gone."

A few minutes later, Laureta was gone herself after her coach, CeeLo Green, chose to respect the viewing public’s wishes and put Juliet Simms through to next week’s semifinal round of competition.

"Cheesa, you know I love you," said Green. "Your voice sounds so accomplished and classically trained, so it would be ironic for you not to go forward.

"But Juliet, your voice is like art imitating life. And life isn’t perfect. I cannot argue with America and the support they’re giving Juliet. I have to go with Juliet."

Laureta fell short despite a strong performance of Whitney Houston’s classic, "I Have Nothing," on Monday.

"I have to applaud you for some courage," said coach Christina Aguilera. "I know as a vocalist myself what it’s like to sing a Whitney Houston song, and those are huge shoes to fill. And you still managed to do your own thing with it."

Added Green: "You did an exceptional job."

Still, Green and coach Adam Levine were forced to dismiss one singer each in an "instant elimination" that saw James Massone and Pip Andrew go home, leaving Laureta to compete against fellow Team CeeLo members Simms and Jamar Rogers for one of two spots on next week’s show.

On Team Adam, Tony Lucca was safe on Tuesday, leaving Sharon Mathai and Katrina Parker to square off with their versions of Carrie Underwood’s "Cowboy Casanova" and Pink’s "Perfect," respectively. Levine decided to keep Parker, finalizing the lineup of singers to advance.

Along with Rogers, Simms, Lucca and Parker, Lindsey Pavao and Chris Mann will represent Team Christina next week; Jermaine Paul and Erin Willett will represent coach Blake Shelton.

All eight semifinalists will perform on Monday, followed by eliminations on Tuesday. "The Voice" airs at 7 p.m. Mondays and 8 p.m. Tuesdays on NBC
