Diving fatality is identified as Waianae man, 28
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 28-year-old man who died after a diving incident Thursday night as Harvin Hetipak of Waianae.
Police said Hetipak was diving off Maunalahilahi Beach Park in Mahaka about 10:40 p.m. when he began struggling and called out to a dive partner. By the time bystanders got to him, Hetipak was floating on his back without a mask and unresponsive.
Bystanders pulled him to shore, and paramedics took him to Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, where he died at 11:15 p.m.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
