Holiday crackdowns result in arrests, hundreds of traffic tickets

Honolulu police stepped up traffic enforcment efforts and issued 400 citations in Wahiawa over the three-day holiday weekend during what police said was a Safer Streets operation. In town, police arrested 30 people and issued 27 traffic tickets during another Safer Streets crackdown on Kapiolani Boulevard and Beretaina Street.

Police also arrested 25 people and issued 40 citations in DUI traffic enforcement efforts in Kalihi, Pearl City, Leeward Oahu.

Police announced the arrests and citations on their Facebook page.

In Wahiawa, police said they issued 228 speeding citations, 82 moving violations, and 5 tickets for cell phone violations. The other tickets were for various other violations. Police also arrested 8 people for DUI.

The Safer Streets enforcement effort in the Kapiolani/Beretaina area Saturday, Sunday and Monday resulted in 8 DUI arrests and 22 arrests for other traffic violations, police said.

DUI enforcement efforts Saturday and Sunday in Kalihi, Pearl City and Leeward Oahu, including Kapolei, resulted in 25 arrests, including 8 for driving other the influence, according to police. The other arrests were for other traffic violations. Police also issued 40 citations — 17 for speeding, 2 for excessive speed and the rest for other traffic offenses.

Pearl City police said they conducted DUI checkpoints on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on Kamehameha Highway and the H-1 Freeway overpass, and Farrington Highway and Paiva Street between 10  p.m. and 2 a.m. and made 2 DUI arrests, 1 traffic arrest and issued 20 citations.
