A 55-year-old Honolulu woman who went to the hospital in good condition after a January traffic accident later died from medical complications, becoming Oahu’s 17th traffic death of the year.

The Medical Examiner’s Office said today that Obra Morris died on Feb. 12 after suffering "multiple system organ failure" caused by complications from blunt force injuries suffered in the Jan. 9 accident.

Morris was a passenger in a car that collided with another vehicle at Kapiolani Boulevard and Kapahulu Avenue at 9:30 p.m. Police said she was taken in good condition to the Queen’s Medical Center where she remained until her death.

Traffic investigators said her death was Oahu’s 17th traffic death case so far this year, compared with 11 at the same time last year.

The other people in her car also were taken to the hospital but were treated and released, police said.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident, police said.
