A 44-year-old man and a bystander chased after a 27-year-old homeless man who allegedly tried to steal the man’s bag Monday afternoon.

Police said the man was sitting at a table in front of a store on Kalakaua Avenue when the suspect grabbed the bag off his shoulder and fled. The 44-year-old man and a witness chased the suspect, who dropped the bag. Police found the suspect hiding in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Kalakaua Avenue in McCully and arrested him at 4:55 p.m. for second-degree theft and contempt.
