The Navy this week opened the first fueling station on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam selling "flex fuel" containing 85 percent ethanol. The fueling station, which opened Thursday, is available for government use only, according to Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Hawaii. It is the first of three E85 fueling stations planned for the base. There are an estimated 1,000 vehicles on base that are capable of using the fuel, which is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline.

Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay has had an E85 fueling station since November 2010. It also is available only for government use.
