No. 3 UCLA sweeps No. 13 Hawaii in Outrigger tournament
Senior hitter Jeremy Casebeer put down 13 kills and sophomore hitter Gonzalo Quiroga added 11 to lead No. 3 UCLA past No. 13 Hawaii 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 for the title 18th Outrigger Hotels Volleyball Invitational tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Freshman hitter JP Marks led the Warriors (2-3, 1-2 OHVI) with 11 kills and senior hitter Steven Hunt added 10. Hawaii, finishing third in the tournament, is 1-11 against UCLA in this event.
In today’s first match, No. 9 Lewis (3-2, 2-1) defeated Springfield (0-3, 0-3) 25-20, 25-18, 27-25 for second place.
UCLA setter Kyle Caldwell was named the most outstanding player. Also named to the all-tournament team were UCLA’s Casebeer and Thomas Amberg, Hawaii’s Hunt and Marks, Angel Fernandez of Springfield and Jay Petty of Lewis.
