The United Public Workers union representing some 8,500 state and county blue-collar workers has reached a tentative agreement with the government negotiators on a two-year contract.

The union’s Executive Negotiating Committee is scheduled to vote on the proposal Saturday.

If approved, the proposed contract will be voted on by UPW members statewide.

Part of the proposed contract calls for a 50-50 split in health insurance benefits.

The state had been seeking a 5-percent reduction in pay, but it was unknown if that was part of the tentative agreement.

UPW members had authorized a strike after negotiations faltered on a new two-year-old contract. The old contract expired June 30.

The Abercrombie administration was scheduled to announce details of the tentative agreement Thursday.
