Myanmar’s Suu Kyi meets with new president
YANGON, Myanmar (AP) — An official says Myanmar’s pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi is holding her first meeting with the president of the country’s new civilian government.
The official said Suu Kyi traveled to the administrative capital Naypyitaw for the first time Friday and went into a meeting with President Thein Sein, who took power in March. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with journalists.
The 66-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate has repeatedly called for political dialogue with the government since her release from seven years under house arrest in November.
