The Navy will hold a meeting this evening to discuss historic preservation requirements and a plan for a 5.91-megawatt solar farm at the crisscross runway intersection of Ewa Field in Kalaeloa.

The weedy and forgotten airfield, still pockmarked by bullet holes and bomb blasts from Dec. 7, 1941, was a key Marine Corps battlefield and is separate from the Barbers Point Navy runways that are nearby.

The solar project is being pursued by Ford Island Ventures, part of Texas-based Hunt Cos., which has a lease on 499 acres of Navy land at Kalaeloa.   

Navy Region Hawaii said it is evaluating the proposed Kalaeloa Renewable Energy Park plan. The public is invited to attend the meeting Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hale Ponoi Building at the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands facility at 91-5420 Kapolei Parkway
