Big Island police are looking for a 31-year-old Kau man wanted for allegedly shooting a firearm Sunday afternoon during a confrontation with his girlfriend, who fled from him in a passing tourist car.

Police said Nathan Cakin, 31, of Pahala, allegedly forced his way into his girlfriend’s car of their Pahala home and forced her to drive.

The girlfriend, 23, then stopped the car on Wood Valley Road and fled on foot.

Cakin allegedly fired two shots and ordered her to get back in the car, but she escaped into a passing tourist’s car, police said.

Cakin then allegedly got into the girlfriend’s car and drove up to the tourist’s car, reached out and grabbed her by the hair, dragged her, then let her go, police said. It is unclear whether the woman had gotten out of the car.

The tourist then drove the woman to the Naalehu police station.

Cakin is described as 5-feet 9-inches tall, about 250 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Police said the incident occurred between 2:40 p.m. and 3 p.m.
