Big Island police seek suspect in shooting and attempted theft
Big Island detectives are looking for a 25-year-old Kona man who allegedly shot another man during a foot chase Friday night in Kona.
The shooting happened about 6:10 p.m. in a parking lot on Kaukini Highway after the alleged shooter met with a 54-year-old man, an acquaintance.
The younger man allegedly grabbed the other man’s wallet, but couldn’t take it and fled on foot with the older man in pursuit. During the chase, the younger man turned and fired a dark pistol at the older man, hitting him in the shoulder, police said.
The shooter fled in a light colored SUV.
Police said the older man was treated and released from Kona Community Hospital.
