A 62-year-old male visitor was in extremely critical condition after an apparent fall at Chinaman’s Hat on Monday afternoon, officials with the Emergency Medical Services and Honolulu Fire Department said.

The city Ocean Safety Division notified the fire department at 2:15 p.m. of the discovery of a man found on the back side of the island at the base of a cliff, said HFD Capt. Terry Seelig.

Seelig said the man had injuries consistent with a fall, including head and upper body trauma.

The lifeguard who found the man called for resources.

Fire personnel airlifted the man to Kualoa, where he was transported to EMS.

He was taken in extremely critical condition to a trauma center.

Fire rescue personnel assisted Ocean Safety.
