Two Maui High students compete in national automotive skills contest
Two Maui High School seniors are representing Hawaii at a national automotive skills competition.
Jimbo Paranada and Marc Paguirigan qualified for the 2011 Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills National Finals last month as Hawaii’s state champion.
AAA Hawaii officials say the team is to face 49 other teams at the national finals today at Ford headquarters in Michigan.
The teams are competing for $12 million in scholarships and prizes and a chance to shadow a Roush Fenway NASCAR race team at its shop this summer.
During a timed competition Tuesday morning, 100 students in red and black pit crew uniforms are to repair Ford F150 trucks.
The fastest team to repair the car with the best written test score will be the national champion.
