Authorities have charged two men in connection with the slaying of a pregnant goat at a Kauai dairy.

Ryan Winchell and Russell Hoomanawanui, both 29 of Kilauea, were each charged Wednesday with first-degree criminal property damage, second-degree theft, theft of livestock and place to keep a firearm. Winchell also was charged with storage of a firearm. Both men posted bail at $8,100 and $8,000 respectively.

On April 29, Louisa Wooton, co-owner of Kauai Kunana Dairy, went to check on their goats when she discovered 4-year-old Kaitlyn butchered with her organs left behind.

Kaitlyn was due to give birth in two weeks with two kids. Her collar was left hanging on a 5-foot-high, electric barbed-wire fence that encloses the 10-acre pasture.

Court records show Hoomanawanui has prior convictions of four petty misdemeanors, one of which involved harassment, and a misdemeanor for criminal contempt of court.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned June 8 in District Court.
