Ala Moana man charged with trying to strangle pregnant girlfriend

A 39-year-old Ala Moana man was charged Monday in the attempted strangulation of his 32-year-old girlfriend who is pregnant with his child.

Police said that on April 24, Michael Nale got into an argument with the woman and allegedly punched her in the eye. He then used both hands and allegedly tried to strangle her, impeding her breathing, police said. He then allegedly put her in a bear hug and tried to squeeze her stomach, allegedly attempting to hurt the fetus, police said.

Police said Nale turned himself in at 2:30 a.m. Monday and was charged with one count each of felony and misdemeanor abuse of a family or household member. He was being held on $25,000 bail.
