The mangled front wheel of a motorcycle illustrated the force of its collision yesterday with a Jeep, left, along Kaukonahua Road in Waialua. The motorcyclist was later pronounced dead.

Separate accidents on Oahu left three people dead yesterday.

In Kaneohe last night, two people died after what appears to have been a single-vehicle crash on Kamehameha Highway at Johnson Road.

Police closed the road in both directions in the area of Coral Kingdom while they investigated the 7:45 p.m. crash.

An Emergency Medical Services representative said the deceased are a man and woman, both of whom appear to be in their early 20s.

No other details were available.

Earlier yesterday, a 26-year-old woman died yesterday after her motorcycle collided head-on with a Jeep on Kaukonahua Road, police said.

The driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old woman, and her passenger, a toddler in a car seat, were taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in good condition.

According to police, the motorcyclist was headed north on Kaukonahua near the infamous S-turn when she crossed the center line and crashed into the Jeep.

She was taken in critical condition to Wahiawa General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The accident occurred just before 2 p.m.

Police closed Kaukonahua for about three hours while they conducted an investigation.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved, police said.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, police said.

These were the 21st, 22nd and 23rd traffic fatalities on Oahu this year, compared with 18 at the same time last year.
