Kapolei Parkway reopened after gas leak sealed
The Gas Co. workers have sealed a gas leak in a line at Kapolei Middle School and police reopened Kapolei Parkway.
Students at the school are being kept indoors for the time being while gas company crews continue work on a permanent fix, Honolulu Fire Department Acting Battalion Chief Brandon Uehara said.
No one was injured and the school did not have to evacuate but the students in the cafeteria and another nearby building were relocated, Uehara said.
School officials reported the leak on the northwestern corner of the school at about 8:45 a.m. The situation was declared under control at 9:20, Uehara said.
Kapolei Parkway reopened in both directions around 10 a.m. Vehicles had been turned away at Fort Barrette Road on the west side, and Kamaaha Street on the east side while the leak was sealed.
