JAL puts Narita flight back on daily schedule
Japan Airlines will restore a daily flight between Narita and Honolulu on Monday just in time for the Golden Week string of Japanese holidays.
JAL, which typically flies six daily flights to Honolulu — three from Narita, and one each from Haneda, Kansai International Airport in Osaka, and Nagoya — dropped one of its Narita flights on April 6 after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
That flight will resume on Monday and continue to operate for most of May. Golden Week runs from April 29 through May 5.
JAL will go back to just two flights a day between Narita and Honolulu for eight days in the middle of May (May 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18 and 22), said Mike Hayashi, manager of administration for JAL at Honolulu Airport.
Other than those dates, JAL plans to continue to operate at least six daily flights to Honolulu until at least the end of May. The company will make a decision later about its schedule in June.
Hayashi said on some days during Golden Week, JAL will operate charters and could have as many as seven daily flights.

When JAL is operating at full schedule, it brings to Hawaii about 1,475 air seats a day for the six daily flights. Five of the airline’s flights are on 235-seat Boeing 767s while a 300-seat Boeing 777 is used for the Haneda flight. Hayashi said from May 9-31 that JAL plans to use the smaller Boeing 767 for the Haneda flights.
