City resumes bulky item pickups in Waikiki
City crews began picking up bulky items Saturday in certain parts of Honolulu, including Waikiki, and will continue at a limited pace throughout the weekend, the city said.
However, the city is asking the public to not leave bulky items curbside until the landfill and refuse collection system get up to full speed.
The landfill hasn’t fully reopened and is mainly taking critical waste items such as HPOWER residue, waste-water sludge and debris. Bulky waste is being mixed in with the wastewater sludge.
City officials stopped the pickup of bulky items during repairs to the landfill, which was damaged by heavy rainfall more than two weeks ago.
