Road to Lahaina reopens after rockslide
A rockslide briefly cut off the Lahaina-Kaanapali area from the rest of Maui Monday night, a county spokesman said.
The rockslide was reported about 6:30 p.m. in the pali area of Honoapiilani Highway, county spokesman Rod Antone said.
Both lanes of the highway were closed between Maalaea and Ukumehame, but reopened at 7:30 p.m.,Antone said.
The rockslide is believed to be related to rainfall in the area, he said.
Maui County was under flash flood warning until about 9:15, the National Weather Service said. The warning was canceled and a flood advisory issued until after midnight..
More rain is expected on Wednesday. The National Weather Services says a slow-moving weather front will move over the islands and linger until at least Thursday night. All islands are under a flash flood watch beginning Wednesday.
