Hawaiian Volcano Observatory today reported Kilauea volcano continued to erupt at two locations with active lava flows into the sea on its western rift flank.

A new lava flow entered the ocean 1.3 miles southwest of the end of Highway 130 Thursday night.

The flow to the ocean is the continuation of the Nov. 29 flow.

A lava flow from the eastern rift continues to move towards Kalapana Gardens subdivision, but no homes are threatened, the observatory said.

At the summit, conditions were unchanged with slowly rising lava deep within the east wall of Halemaumau Crater. This lava lake circulated while its level rose and fell several times per hour and produced glow visible overnight from the observatory’s Jaggar Museum. Sulfur dioxide emission rates from the summit and east rift zone vents remained elevated.
