KITV reaches agreement with DirecTV
Hawaii residents will still be able to watch KITV via the DirecTV satellite service after midnight, as the station’s parent company, New York-based Hearst Television Inc., has reached a retransmission agreement with California-based DirecTV.
Station officials could not be reached, but a message on the KITV website confirms the deal for continued services.
DirecTV subscribers’ ability to watch KGMB-TV and KHNL-TV after midnight is not yet resolved.
The stations’ parent company, Alabama-based Raycom Media, “continues to negotiate in good faith at the bargaining table at the present hour,” said General Manager Rick Blangiardi. Raycom has provided DirecTV a signed agreement “that will allow continued coverage … to DirecTV subscribers into 2014,” and said the company is awaiting a response and signature from DirecTV. A message across the bottom of television screens during broadasts is airing on the stations until there is a new development.
