UH’s Amis out five weeks with stress fracture

University of Hawaii forward Bill Amis will miss about five weeks of the basketball season with a stress fracture in his right foot.

Amis sat out last year with a torn plantar fascia in his right foot that he injured in a preseason game. He told the Star-Advertiser today he hopes to return in time for the Diamond Head Classic, but preparing for the Western Athletic Conference season is the priority. The Rainbows open league play at Utah State on Dec. 29.

The 6-9 senior from Oklahoma City is the team’s leading scorer (15.8 points per game) and rebounder (6.8 rpg). He is one of three captains on this year’s unbeaten squad. The Rainbows will play Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday.
